Matthew's Funny Sayings
Just a few recent treasures....
1. When I picked Matthew up from school we had to clean up the blocks before he could come home. To get him to do this quickly, we decided to race and see who could put the most blocks in the bucket. Matthew told me that "the one who wins the race to put the most blocks in is the one who puts in the last block". So, I then asked him if he put in 99 blocks and I just put in the 100th block, would I therefore be the one who put the most blocks in just because I put in the last one? His answer: "Well Daddy, that's a problem with the English Language". Certainly it wasn't a problem with Matthew's Logic.
2. Matthew had a cold last week and I asked him how he was feeling. He said that he was feeling mostly better and that "it only made noise when he smelled backward, but smelling forward was fine". Took me a second to realize that, to a four-year-old, "smelling backwards" means "breathing in".
3. Tonight, Matthew fell asleep at 5:00PM and since he was still not feeling well, Molly decided to let him sleep. When he awoke at approximately 7:15PM, he came downstairs and joined us in the kitchen. He then pointed out that he wasn't the only one who wakes up during the night (as he still often does) - since on this night, everyone had woken up. It took us a while to point out that he had a nap and that we hadn't yet been to bed.
