Since the Harry Potter books are such wonderful and well-known stories, I will keep my comments to very brief observations - mostly on questions that I have. I have read The Order of the Phoenix in the past, but since I just started reading it aloud to Matthew, I couldn't resist the temptation to read it again. As I read the books aloud, I must say that I find JK Rowling's phrasing to be quite repetitive (Snape is always referred to as having greasy hair, a hooked nose, and a sallow complexion - certainly there must be some synonyms available!). But to the observations of the day - I think this book is the first one that mentions the word "God" (although it might have been book 4) - it just slips through in an expression of "Oh my God" - which is usually done as something like "Merlin's Beard". And also, why didn't Harry use the magic mirror to talk to Sirius, rather than fly all the way to the Ministry of Magic. Can the reader really believe that Harry lost track of a present from his beloved godfather? How many of you would receive a present from a favorite relative and never open it?? Not very believable (even in a world of magic).
But I am looking forward to reading Book 6 again - but as Matthew and I only cover about 10 pages per day, it will be a long wait.
Recommended to all.
