Knife of Dreams

Knife of Dreams (The Wheel of Time, Book 11)
Author: Robert Jordan
Amazon info

I think that I have previously blogged Book 10 in this series (Crossroads of Twilight) where I urged potential readers to avoid this series, as books 6-10 were pretty bad (and LONG). But KOD is a vast improvement, and if not quite up to the standard of the first four books, definitely a good read - and enough to bring you back into the series.

While Jordan is still the ultimate in the "anticipation" style of writing, several of the plot lines do come to resolution in this book (thank goodness). The number of characters is still mind-boggling, one site says 1880 different characters, but I don't know if that includes the new characters from Book 11. But equally jaw-dropping are the casual references to characters that haven't been mentioned in 4-5 books (e.g. about 3000 pages ago).

In fact, this book (or the series) is NOT readable without an online reference guide. I would have been lost without http://www.encyclopaedia-wot.org/ .

Now the key is for Robert Jordan to be able to finish Book 12, believed to be the last book, although it may be huge, before he dies!

Recommended for those who have made it through Book 10. All others should wait for the series to finish before starting.
