I figure, since Spike Lee is from Brooklyn (although not Canarsie), I should read his autobiography, even if I have only seen a few films. The writing isn't particularly innovative or captivating, but the book simply devotes one chapter to each of Spike Lee's films (give or take). What was particularly interesting was the level of honesty and the direct feedback provided by the numerous interviewees. By no means was this book a "whitewash" - especially the feedback from Spike's wife. Quite courageous in that sense. I was also impressed by Spike's attempt to nurture and grow the African American presence in the film industry - it appeared to be quite core to his mission, not something he did for political purposes.
Recommended: For all, especially those who have seen more of Spike Lee's films.
