Has Science Found God?

Has Science Found God? The Latest Results in the Search for Purpose in the Universe

I chose this book mostly due to the subtitle. I was searching for a philosophical treatment of the lack of meaning in the universe. In particular, I figured that most of our philosophical theories were developed in the context of a belief in god. I also figured that we are past the first philosophers whose main contribution was "there is no god" and I am looking for the next generation, the ones who think "of course there is no god, here's how we deal with it". Personally I just accept the lack of meaning and don't seem to face any despair, but was curious as to how others handle it.

Needless to say, this book was NOT what I was seeking. It was focused on how to respond to theists who claim that they can prove that God does exist. By the way, for clarification, we are talking about a God who answers prayers. The author would also say that there is no evidence for a God who created the universe and then walked away (the "deist" viewpoint) - but then the burden of proof is on the deists to show that prove that such a god exists. So the book has a number of interesting arguments, and would be useful to those actively involved in scientific/religious debates (e.g. debates over "intelligent design").

Recommended: Religious/Science debaters.
